About

Pleased to meet you! I’m  Jessica Fox.

A freelance writer, copywriter, ghostblogger, novelist-in-waiting, yoga student, equestrienne, ‘80s music aficionado, and burger connoisseur.

Growing up outside of Washington, DC, between horseback riding lessons and school, I devoured books at an alarming rate. Like playing dress up in my mother’s closet, through reading I fell inside worlds and lives. I dreamed of creating something so magical it stirred others’ imaginations. That or winning an Olympic Equestrian gold medal.

Heading to the University of Massachusetts, I left behind stacks of composition books filled with stories and majored in Communication. While deejaying at WMUA, UMass’s student radio station, I got my first taste of copywriting: ads, non-profit PSAs, and copy editing what came over the AP Newswire to read on air.

I was hooked.

BA in my pocket I worked in marketing and sales, writing newsletters, brochures, and proposals. Figuring out the right words to convey exactly what customers wanted, then executing it was so satisfying I detoured.

After extensive research, I crafted a business plan and opened a luxury retail bridal boutique. Those six years were a crash course in business – small business marketing, blogging, time management, brides, and figuring out how to sew. I learned how to evaluate each customer, determine what she was looking for, and help her find it.

When my shop fell, along with the economy, in 2009, I was back where I started, but still writing. As a business owner, I had written web text, daily blog posts, newsletters, advertisements, and press pitches. In my free time, I dreamed up stories, saving them on the computer for later.

You know what they say about doors closing?

My first professional freelance writing job was ghostblogging for a UK-based bridal shoe and gown company. Word got around, and before I knew it, my growing client base allowed me to become a full-time writer.

And I am so grateful.

Everything I learned about business, consumers, marketing, and sales is a toolkit I refer to over and over again while writing for businesses. I treat every project as if it were my own, working to understand who my client’s audience is and then helping hone their message through words.

I’d love to hear from you!
